# DRep Onboarding
Simplify your DRep onboarding process by following the order of the toolkit, and use of governance tools and resources provided
## Tips For Smooth Onboarding
* Set up a dedicated wallet and secure keys with hardware, strong passphrases, and a clear backup plan.
* Read CIP-1694 basics and the Governance Action lifecycle so you know what each vote means end-to-end.
* Practice on testnet or GovTool’s sandbox before touching mainnet flows.
* Prepare a short public profile: values, focus areas, voting framework, disclosure of affiliations, and contact channel.
* Register as a DRep and verify your on-chain identity links match your off-chain pages.
* Establish a voting routine: proposal intake, evidence review, timeboxing, and a record of sources.
* Create transparent rationale templates so every vote is concise, consistent, and easy to audit.
* Set conflict-of-interest rules and document recusals.
* **Communicate early:** publish stances before deadlines and summarize outcomes after.
* Track impact with a simple dashboard for votes, delegations, and follow-ups.
* **Plan continuity:** an escalation contact and a clean retirement procedure if you step back.
