# DRep Guide

Explore the role of a Delegate Representatives, the requirements and best practices DReps follow as a governing body.

## DReps

In governance, DReps (Delegated Representatives) are classified as any ada-holder(s) registered on the Cardano blockchain, representing the interests of its delegators.

Delegation happens when other ada-holders assign their ada stake (voting power) to designated DReps who vote on specified governance actions that align with their interests. Subjects of interest may vary between **technical expertise, past governance contributions, proposed principles, etc.**&#x20;

The primary role of DReps (as defined under CIP 1694) is to contribute to the democratic governance model within the ecosystem by representing the interests of delegators and exercising their voting power on proposed governance actions.

## Prerequisites (Eligibility)

While any Ada holder can become a DRep, not all Ada holders are currently registered and have the status of an active DReps.

To qualify as a DRep, you must;

* Have 500 ada or more to deposit&#x20;
* Choose a wallet compatible with Govtools (e.g., Lace or Eternl)&#x20;
* Have verifiable data entered and stored without any error conditions
* Basic familiarity with blockchain governance.

### Initial Onboarding Checklist
